Douglas Candido

Building Nevada Forward

Candidate for Nevada State Assembly — District 6

Meet Douglas

Douglas Candido is a lifelong Las Vegas resident, union carpenter, and working-class advocate running to represent Assembly District 6. Born at Sunrise Hospital to immigrant parents from Mexico and El Salvador, Douglas grew up in a household where hard work, sacrifice, and family came first. His parents worked as dishwashers and housekeepers, and like many families in Southern Nevada, struggled at times just to make ends meet.

Douglas began working at 16, moved out at 18, and understands firsthand the challenges facing working families—rising housing costs, limited access to healthcare, and wages that haven’t kept pace with the cost of living. Those experiences didn’t discourage him; they prepared him.

Today, Douglas is a proud member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners, Local 1977, where he has served as a job site steward and community leader. Through his union work, he has helped mentor young workers, supported workforce training, and participated in food distributions, student outreach, and home-building projects that strengthen neighborhoods. Douglas brings to public service the same values that guide his work: respect for labor, belief in expanding opportunities, and responsibility to the people around him. He understands how policy decisions affect everyday life because he has experienced their consequences firsthand.

In Carson City, Douglas Candido will bring the voice, perspective, and work ethic of Southern Nevada’s working families—focused on practical solutions, collaboration, and delivering results that strengthen communities. He is not running to represent special interests—he is running to represent the hard-working families of District 6 who deserve a government that works for them.

A Story of Resilience

From working two jobs as a teenager to becoming a community leader and award-winning apprentice, Douglas’s journey reflects the resilience of Nevada’s working families.

01

Early Work Ethic

He began working at 16, held two jobs, and moved out at 18. Douglas attempted to pursue a nursing degree while continuing to work, but, like many working-class students, rising costs forced him to step away.

02

Creative Pursuits

He later pursued creative work in photography, graphic design, and mixed-media art. In his free time, Douglas enjoys collecting records, listening to music, spending time with his nephews, and cheering on the Golden Knights and the Raiders.

03

Turning Point

After a serious motorcycle accident, Douglas was in recovery when COVID hit, and without healthcare coverage, he saw firsthand how quickly life can unravel when working people fall through the cracks.

04

Community Advocacy

That experience pushed him toward hands-on work, where effort, skill, and teamwork directly matter. Douglas became active in community advocacy, including participating in Latino Lobby Day to support small businesses and economic growth.

05

Building Trades & Leadership

Through his work with the building trades, he saw how good jobs can provide stability, training, and a real path forward. He stepped up by mentoring others, helping with food giveaways, home-building projects, and student workshops, and serving as a job site steward.

06

Recognition

His commitment was recognized when he was named Apprentice of the Year.

“These experiences didn’t just shape my perspective—they fuel my determination to fight for working families who know what it means to struggle, work hard, and never give up.”

Why I’m Running for Assembly District 6

I’m running for Assembly District 6 because too many families here are working hard and still falling behind. Rent keeps going up. Good-paying jobs feel harder to reach. Families are worried about safety, healthcare, and whether their kids will have more opportunities than they did.

I believe government should work for working people—not just those who are already doing well. That means creating real opportunities for working-class individuals, and making sure we’re also investing in the current and next generation so our kids can build their futures right here in Southern Nevada.

Expanding Workforce Housing

So families aren’t forced to choose between rent and groceries.

Diversifying Our Economy

To bring stable, good-paying jobs to our community.

Keeping Neighborhoods Safe

By supporting smart, community-focused solutions.

“I know the challenges in Assembly District 6 because I’ve lived them. I’m not running to play politics, I’m running to work. To listen. And to help build a future where hard work is respected, and opportunity is within reach for everyone.”
